Dr. Michael J. Constantino

Dr. Michael J. Constantino is a professor of clinical psychology at UMass Amherst and director of the Psychotherapy Research Lab. His research examines how patient, therapist, and dyadic factors—as well as in-session processes—affect psychotherapy outcomes. He develops personalized, context-responsive interventions grounded in both theory-specific and integrative principles and studies therapist effectiveness through measurement-informed care. He originated the context-responsive psychotherapy integration framework as a meta-orientation for flexible, evidence-based practice. Author of more than 215 publications and co-editor of major psychotherapy volumes. His honors include being named an APA Fellow, receiving multiple early career awards, the APA Division 29 Mid-Career Award, the Division 29 Distinguished Publication Award, and recognition as a UMass Amherst Spotlight Scholar.
