Dr. David Kealy

Dr. David Kealy, PhD, is Associate Professor in UBC’s Department of Psychiatry, affiliated with the Psychotherapy Program and the Institute of Mental Health. He leads the Identity and Psychotherapy Process Lab, where his research centers on psychotherapy processes and outcomes, especially for individuals with identity- and personality-related difficulties, histories of trauma, and complex comorbidity. He is particularly interested in personalization of therapy, emotion regulation, self and interpersonal functioning, and tailoring interventions for populations such as young adults, men, and those affected by adverse childhood experiences. His work is informed by psychodynamic and integrative relational theories. Kealy’s research has earned him early-career research awards from the Western Psychological Association and the Society for Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration, and he holds a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar Award.
